A modified truck was recently intercepted and stopped by Italian police, revealing a powerful 12-cylinder, 1500-horsepower engine under the cab. The driver was fined 4,300 euros, had his license suspended for three months, and lost 23 points on his license.

The incident occurred in Italy on the A1 motorway at the Ferentino toll booth, where a patrol from the Frosinone Highway Police grew suspicious of an Iveco Turbostar truck traveling at unusually high speeds and emitting excessive smoke. Upon pulling the truck over, officers identified additional irregularities, such as dual exhaust pipes and non-standard mechanical components. They decided to investigate further by lifting the truck’s cabin, where they uncovered a massive V12 engine and four modified turbochargers.

This discovery prompted a thorough inspection of the vehicle, particularly its tachograph. The truck was transported to a workshop, where mechanics were astonished to confirm the extensive modifications. It was revealed that the engine, gearbox, and braking system had all been replaced with parts likely taken from an industrial generator. To accommodate the oversized engine, the driver had even widened the chassis.

When tested on a dynamometer, the truck’s engine was found to produce 1500 horsepower and achieve a certified top speed of over 130 km/h. Due to safety concerns during the testing, the full potential of the engine could not be explored, but technical calculations estimated it could easily exceed 150 km/h. Further investigation into the driver’s social media accounts revealed videos showing the truck, while fully loaded, overtaking a car traveling at 160 km/h.

Following the technical evaluations, the driver was hit with several administrative penalties totalling around 4,300 euros. In addition, the truck’s registration was revoked, the vehicle was ordered to undergo a special inspection at the Frosinone motor vehicle department, and the driver’s license was suspended for three months, with a 23-point deduction.
