BP is planning to ration fuel deliveries and has been forced to close some petrol stations due to a shortage of HGV drivers.
The oil company is struggling to restock fuel pumps and is planning to prioritise deliveries to key locations, bosses have warned the Government.
While there is no lack of fuel, a shortage of drivers is making it difficult to keep supplies moving around the country according to ITV news.
Esso which is another fuel company, say a small number of sites it runs with Tesco have also been impacted by the driver shortage.
BP’s Head of UK Retail, Hanna Hofer, said it has ‘two thirds of normal forecourt stock levels required for smooth operations’ and this is ‘declining rapidly’.
The company admits this could mean there are times when petrol stations are totally out of fuel and forecourts will have to be temporarily closed off as a result.
