Truck Driver’s Heroic Act Saves Motorcyclist on M1
A Nottinghamshire motorcyclist, Kyle Shim-Thomas, is on a quest to express gratitude to an unidentified lorry driver who came to his rescue on the M1. Shim-Thomas experienced a breakdown just past J25 without the safety of a hard shoulder. The lorry driver, noticing the vulnerable situation, selflessly shielded him from fast-moving traffic, enabling him to call for assistance and safely make it home.
Reflecting on the incident, Kyle shares, “It only hit me afterwards how scary it was. I always like hearing positive and heartwarming stories, and this is one.” Despite the initial shock of his bike cutting out in the middle lane, the timely intervention of the lorry driver prevented a potentially hazardous situation.
Now, Kyle seeks to find the anonymous driver to convey his appreciation for the selfless act. The breakdown occurred shortly after his bike passed an MOT test, leaving him stranded without hazard lights. The HGV driver, without leaving the cabin, guided Kyle to the nearest emergency refuge point, ensuring a safe resolution to the unexpected ordeal.
Despite Kyle’s attempts to locate the driver through various channels, including National Highways and social media, he has been unsuccessful. Describing the driver as older with a “big, bushy beard,” and the lorry having a dark blue cab and a light blue/grey/off-white trailer with a numberplate ending in NFP or NJP, Kyle hopes to reunite with his roadside savior and extend his heartfelt thanks in the spirit of the approaching Christmas season.
