The Department for Transport’s (DfT) consultation on proposed changes to The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC), to help tackle the current professional driver shortage is closing shortly. You can read and respond to the consultation on GOV.UK as well as read through the DCPC review report. The closing date to respond is Thursday 27 April. What changes are being proposed?The proposed changes are taken from a review of the current DCPC with vocational stakeholders. Amongst other things, the proposals in the consultation include:

The driver cpc is a waste of time a lot of drivers are about to stop driving when cpc runs out, that’s one of the reasons why there is a shortage, I will not renew
The CPC IS A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY and is one reason why I stopped driving HGV after 30 years it is MENT TO HELP Drivers with safety and security BUT AS MOST DRIVERS know what MOST IS JUST COMMON SENSE. And It Ps of drivers who have been driving for years to be told WHAT TO DO by someone who is just out of School

Add a test to an already painful experience and that’ll see alot of drivers quitting. Me for one
New periodic test is a absurd idea and you will lose many of drivers because of that idiotic idea. Driver shortage is a thing but lets make it worse for them current drivers.IDIOTS
The DCPC does nothing other than make money, I have held an HGV for 50years (73 years old) It taught me nothing, if it was so important then the “grandfather rights” on the first issue would not have happened,…(I don’t know how to do your job but my book says you’re doing it wrong)

Total waste of time for professional drivers
So long as you are medically fit and are capable of driving, please get rid of it
Cpc once for new drivers is fine but it is a total waste of time and money for any experienced drivers I’ve done loads and not learnt anything I didn’t know already it’s car drivers that need cpc so they can see how they basically cause the majority of accidents with hgvs doing 40 odd on motorway acceleratoring when being overtaken by trucks cutting in front of trucks just cos they can’t read signs and they have no idea what a trucks blindspots are need I go on biggest ripoff since the standing charge for energy no wonder nobody wants to do this job
The driver fpc for new drivers fine I have been driving accident free,since 1980.doing uk european work only this year 2024 January in france gave controller car not interested.and in uk Winchester visa again did not want it .I asked what he thought his reply waste of older drivers time and money.,that made me finally give this job up when cpc runs out 9th September,a plastic card to say you can drive wow .no thanks.
