London – Direct Vision Standard and LEZ charges from 1 March
Transport for London (TfL) has reminded firms that two new charging schemes will start on 1 March on commercial vehicles operating in the capital.
Operators of HGVs over 12 tonnes (GVW) driving within the Greater London area must meet TfL’s Direct Vision Standard (DVS) rules or pay £550 charges, with drivers facing an additional £130 charge.
Tougher Low Emission Zone (LEZ) standards will mean operators of pre-Euro VI commercial vehicles also facing charges to drive within the Greater London area.
If you drive an HGV, van or other specialist heavy vehicle over 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight or a coach over 5 tonnes gross vehicle weight within the LEZ and it does not meet Euro VI – NOx and Particulate Matter (PM), you will need to pay the daily LEZ charge.
If your vehicle:
• Is Euro IV or V (PM) – you will need to pay a daily charge of £100
• Doesn’t meet Euro IV (PM) – you will need to pay a daily charge of £300
Officials recently launched an ‘allow list’ which grants hauliers a 90-day grace period to comply with DVS safety requirements. Firms must provide evidence of applications or planned installation arrangements when applying before 1 March.
