#M1 incident – 1430 update:

MOTORWAY REMAINS CLOSED SOUTHBOUND

Recovery and clean up work is ongoing at the scene, and the road remains closed from J26 to J25. This follows a very serious accident at around 5am today.

We are told the road will likely remain clsoed throughout the evening rush hour.

Earlier today:

The southbound carriageway of the M1 has been closed for hours after a serious crash involving multiple vehicles.

The area affected runs from Junction 26 for the A610 (Nottingham / Eastwood) to Junction 25 for the A52 Brian Clough Way (Nottingham / Derby).

Highways bosses said the motorway had been closed in both directions shortly after 3am on Thursday, January 20.

“All emergency services are working at the scene in a response being led by @nottspolice,” National Highways: East Midlands said in a tweet.

However, at present it is just the southbound carriageway which remains shut.

Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journeys in Thursday’s rush hour.

The southbound carriageway is expected to remain closed throughout the day allowing for investigation work to take place.

Traffic is being diverted.

National Highways Duty Operations Manager for the East Midlands, Matthew Catto, said: “Due to the volume of traffic we would normally expect on the M1 during the morning rush hour we expect severe delays in the area and also on local roads as people follow the diversion.

“We advise road users to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time.”

Traffic should follow the solid diamond diversion on local roads as follows:

  • Exit at J26 and at the roundabout, take the first exit onto the A640 eastbound.
  • The roundabout with the A6002 take the fourth exit.
  • Follow the A6002 southbound to the mini-roundabout with the A6007 near Bramcote Hills Park.
  • Turn left on to the A6007 eastbound to the Bramcote Island roundabout with the A52.
  • Take the third exit from the roundabout onto the A52 Brian Clough Way.
  • Remain on the A52 to J25 of the M1 roundabout. Take the second exit to re-join the M1 southbound.

Thoughts are with anyone involved.

Stay safe & #KeepOnTrucking
