A Scottish haulage company, previously honored as Scottish European haulier of the year, regained interim authority to operate despite having its license revoked for tampering with speed limiters on its trucks.
M&M Kerr, found to have used diagnostic software to boost its fleet’s speed to 60mph, faced consequences including disqualification of its transport manager, Michael Kerr, for 12 months.
The Traffic Commissioner, Claire Gilmore, highlighted the compromised road safety and unfair advantage gained by the company. Despite this, the door remains open for the haulier to reapply for a license.
Recent records show M&M Kerr applying for an international O-license under the same name, with Justin Rooke designated as the transport manager and Michael and Michele Kerr as directors.
A preliminary hearing occurred before the interim license was granted, and further deliberation will determine if a public inquiry is necessary.
Requests for comments from the Traffic Commissioner’s office were made but not responded to.
