A trucker has had his lorry taken off the road after he was clocked exceeding 30-hour shifts. The HGV driver was found to have carried out four duty times surpassing 30 hours – the highest being a whopping 37 hours.
That is far more than is legally allowed for HGV drivers in the UK. The maximum daily limit is nine hours. However, drivers must not drive for more than four-and-a-half hours without a 45-minute break.
The white-coloured lorry was stopped in the Doxey area of Stafford, Staffs, and data from its tachograph – an instrument which records driving times, speed and distances – was analysed. The DVSA analysis found the driver had carried out shifts of: 33 hours and nine minutes, 34 hours and 17 minutes, 24 hours and 36 minutes, 37 hours and 30 hours and 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, the driver was found to have carried out a fortnightly driving time of 127 hours and 55 minutes. This also exceeded regulations.
In the UK, lorry drivers are only allowed to drive for 56 hours per week, and 90 hours over the course of two weeks. The DVSA said the driver had a accumulated an “insufficient weekly rest” period and the vehicle was subsequently “removed from the road network”.
