A 36-year-old trucker is facing assault charges after he lashed out at the man in his passenger seat for breaking wind.
Although it may seem like a headline from a parody news website, the story actually comes from an official report by Mainz traffic police.
According to the report, the Lithuanian driver furiously reacted to his 24-year-old fellow countryman in the passenger seat farting.
The two were travelling in the same truck on March 28th in the direction of Koblenz when the younger passenger farted near Steingewann rest area.
The 36-year-old driver, angered by the stench caused by his compatriot breaking wind, decided he could tolerate the smell no longer. He thus decided to peel off the motorway and stop for some fresh air at the Steingewann rest area.
Once stopped, the driver of the lorry lashed out at his passenger, causing minor injuries to the 24-year-old.
The police report states that the victim of the attack then locked himself in the rest stop toilets for fear of his aggressive colleague, and alerted the police.
The local road police responded to the call, and the 36-year-old trucker will now face charges for causing bodily harm. He was nonetheless allowed to continue his journey alone.
The police also provided the passenger of the truck with a place to stay from where he could be picked up.
Finally, the police report ended by saying that the “driver’s cabin should have been sufficiently ventilated” by the time the aggressor had hit the road again.
The report also adds that the two men “will probably no longer be good buddies”.
