A truck fire on the M25 has led to significant travel disruptions, with the motorway closed clockwise between Junction 5 near Sevenoaks and Junction 6 near Godstone and Caterham. Motorists have been warned that the disruption is expected to continue until midday.

Images from the scene show the lorry engulfed in flames, with the motorway eerily empty around it. Fire crews later extinguished the blaze, leaving only the charred remains of the vehicle.
As a result of the fire, the clockwise section of the M25 between J5 and J6 remains closed, with diversions in place. Westbound traffic on the M26 between J2A near Wrotham Heath and the M25/A21 has also been redirected.
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service responded to the incident on Sunday night, deploying five fire engines and two water carriers. In a statement shared on X, they advised drivers to avoid the area: “We have five fire engines and two water carriers in attendance at a vehicle fire on the M25 between Clacket Lane and Junction 6. The road is closed in both directions. Please avoid the area.”
By 7:15 a.m. on Monday, the fire service reported that only one engine remained on-site to deal with remaining hot spots.
National Highways has advised that the clockwise carriageway is expected to stay closed throughout the day. Due to the severity of the fire, specialist recovery services will be required, and the road may need to be resurfaced. Motorists are facing delays of up to four miles as a result.
Surrey Police also issued a warning, indicating that the disruption could continue until at least midday. In a Monday morning post on X, they added that while the anti-clockwise carriageway had reopened, lanes 3 and 4 near J6 remained closed.
