Pictures show the aftermath of a major offal spillage on part of the A453 in Clifton. The incident was caused when a lorry overturned on the A453 Clifton Lane, heading northbound, at the junction with Green Lane on Friday morning, July 15.

Witnesses have reported seeing chicken feet on grass verges and a pungent smell. One witness said the spillage “absolutely stinks”. It’s understood talks have been held over officials organising a clear up.

One lane was closed and motorists heading into the city were told to expect delays. Pictures from the scene show a huge quantity of offal spread out along the road as the authorities continue to manage the situation.

An earlier tweet posted by Nottingham Travelwise, the city council’s traffic monitoring Twitter account, read: “A453 junction with Green Lane in Clifton, lorry has shed its load on inbound carriageway. Police on scene with lane lane closures. Expect delays for traffic inbound.” In a further tweet, officials said: “Incident is still ongoing and there are long tailback on A453 past Barton towards Thrumpton. Traffic free flowing after the incident.”
