In a bid to curb reckless driving in Lincolnshire, one hundred dashcams will be installed in Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and coaches.
These cameras will capture footage of driving offenses, which will then be uploaded to the Lincolnshire Police website for potential enforcement action.
The initiative, known as Operation Journey and funded with £45,000, aims to reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries on the county’s roads. The dashcams will be provided to haulage and coach companies operating on high-risk routes. Additionally, the funding will support the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership in reviewing the footage. Previously, Lincolnshire Police utilized unmarked HGVs to detect driving offenses.
Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner Marc Jones emphasized that the project’s goal is to alter dangerous driving behavior and save lives, rather than merely issuing fines.
If successful, the program may expand to include other road users and the general public.
