Council bosses are desperately trying to work out who was behind the cyber attacks on Burton’s traffic management screens yesterday. The council has asked for help from the Highways agency to find out who added a message on the board reading “Go back to Swad you idiots. We are supposed to be in lockdown!”. It prompted a complaint from Karen Banks, from Swadlincote, who posted photos of the sign to the Burton Life facebook group, calling it “100% unacceptable”, before quickly removing her post.
However, her rant backfired later that night, as the hacker then changed the message to “Do you want to speak to a manager Karen?”.
A Burton News journalist confirmed that the message was still there at 7:30pm last night. A council source told us it is now a race against time to stop the hacker from posting more rude messages.
