A man has been apprehended and a significant quantity of illegal drugs confiscated by officers from the Cheshire Roads and Crime Unit following a pursuit.
On Tuesday, March 5th, around 5:30 pm, officers attempted to stop a white Mercedes Sprinter car transporter on the M56 near Warrington in Cheshire. The van failed to comply and sped away.
A pursuit ensued as the van traveled along the M56 into Manchester and then onto the A555 towards Manchester Airport. During the chase, several packages were thrown from the van.
Greater Manchester Police were called in to assist, along with the police helicopter.
The transporter eventually stopped after breaching a barrier onto a multistorey car park at Manchester Airport.
The driver attempted to flee on foot but was swiftly apprehended near the Radisson Blue Hotel.
Additionally, a substantial amount of what is believed to be heroin was recovered from the M56.
The 42-year-old from Manchester was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs, being concerned in the supply of class A drugs, and failing to stop for officers. He remains in custody.
