Wetherby Services Expansion Plan Aims to Add 200 Heavy Goods Vehicle Parking Spaces
Wetherby Services could undergo a significant expansion, with plans recently submitted to introduce 200 new heavy goods vehicle parking spaces.
The proposal, presented by Rapleys LLP on behalf of services operator Moto Hospitality Ltd, outlines the expansion at the site located off junction 46 of the A1(M).
Under the plan, the existing site would be extended to accommodate 200 additional HGV parking spaces. Simultaneously, the current HGV parking facilities would be replaced by 118 electric vehicle charging bays. In documents submitted to the council, the developer emphasized that this extension is crucial to meet the growing demand for services at the location.
According to the developer’s statement:
“The proposed approximately 200 new HGV parking spaces are an essential part of the urgently needed extension for the existing motorway service area. This expansion is in direct response to the escalating demand for increased HGV parking capacity at the current motorway service area.”
The submitted plan also highlighted the inclusion of 118 electric vehicle charging spaces, aligning with Moto’s initiative to enhance infrastructure across its sites.
The document emphasized:
“Electric vehicles are pivotal in transitioning to zero-emission transport. To meet these goals, it’s crucial to provide suitable infrastructure for electric vehicles. The proposed development is integral to Moto’s broader strategy to implement EV infrastructure at their services.”
Simultaneously, sustainable energy firm Gridserve, based in Kirk Deighton, has applied to North Yorkshire Council to install 12 charging bays within the existing services car park.
A decision on both proposals by North Yorkshire Council is pending and will be made at a later date.
