ADS Truck Parking, located in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, has garnered praise from drivers following a substantial £225,000 government grant aimed at enhancing its facilities.
The investment was utilized to revamp various amenities for truckers, including the installation of new toilets and showers, an upgraded CCTV system, and the creation of a spacious cafe area complete with outdoor seating.
Expressing his delight, Director Andrew Sargent described feeling “overwhelmed” and “over the moon” to have secured the grant and unveil the upgraded facilities. He emphasized the shift away from traditional “greasy spoon” truck stops, highlighting a desire to attract a broader clientele, including local businesses and the general public.
The funding was obtained through the government’s HGV Parking and Driver Welfare Grant Scheme, which focuses on improving welfare facilities, rest areas, and dining options for lorry drivers. Sargent, having previously operated a haulage business before closing it in 2019, recognized an opportunity to address safety and security concerns voiced by drivers.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by drivers, particularly regarding the lack of adequate facilities at lay-bys, Sargent underscored the importance of providing a secure environment for both drivers and their cargo.
Lorry driver Chris Bradford, who frequently travels through Staffordshire, commended the revamped truck stop, emphasizing the significance of communal areas where drivers can socialize and unwind. He predicted that drivers would actively seek out such facilities, attracting individuals committed to respecting local communities and maintaining the amenities provided by the truck stop.
