Burton in Kendal Services has been temporarily closed to the public after an early morning incident.
Around 2:15 am, the police were alerted to a group of individuals wearing balaclavas attempting to steal an internal ATM at the service station.
Failing in their attempt, they forcibly entered a store within the services and took a cash register.
The services, located on the M6 northbound between Junction 35 and 36, had no injuries reported.
Currently, the services remain closed as the police conduct their investigations, but the petrol station and car park areas have been reopened.
