A paperwork error resulted in a Telford man losing his job after mistakenly believing he had been banned from driving, according to Telford Magistrates Court.
Stephen Phillip Payne, 62, admitted to a speeding charge from an automatic camera incident on April 16, 2022. Although convicted on November 11, 2022, the court revealed on November 2, 2023, that Payne was not informed by the DVLA or the court that the driving ban had been set aside.
Consequently, Payne lost his job as a heavy goods vehicle driver, impacting his ability to assist his disabled wife and son.
Despite recognizing the mitigating circumstances, the court fined Payne £40, imposed three points on his license, and ordered him to pay a £34 victim surcharge, refraining from additional costs due to his financial situation.
