Cleveland police employed an unmarked Heavy Goods Vehicle for a four-day operation, revealing a slew of traffic offenses committed by lorry drivers.

From October 24 to October 27, the operation identified three instances of mobile phone use while driving, six individuals without seatbelts, two lacking MOT or insurance, three vehicles with insecure loads, and two overweight vehicles.

The officers utilized an elevated position in a lorry cab provided by National Highways to monitor these infractions. Nicola Bowman, a road safety and highways liaison officer at Cleveland Police, expressed the commitment to road safety, emphasizing the potential dangers posed by non-compliant drivers operating heavy lorries. National Highways’ regional safety program manager, Nicola Clayton, underscored the priority of safety and the operation’s aim to promote awareness and encourage responsible driving behavior.
