Haywood Crushing Demolition Ltd, a specialist contractor, has been prohibited from transporting machinery for a duration of one year. This decision was made after a 45-tonne jaw crusher machine dislodged from a trailer. The incident occurred in January 2022 when the machine fell off the trailer while navigating a roundabout in the West Midlands. Remarkably, there were no fatalities or serious injuries resulting from the incident.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the chains used to secure the load were insufficient. Additionally, the machinery was being transported at speeds higher than permitted, and without the presence of an escort vehicle.
As a consequence, the West Midlands Traffic Commissioner has decreed that Haywood Crushing Demolition Ltd, based in Herefordshire, will face a one-year ban from acquiring or holding any form of operator’s license in any traffic jurisdiction.
