Earlier this week on January 5 at approximately 8:15 pm, four lorries on the M6 near Carlisle were struck by rocks thrown from Garlands footbridge, situated between junctions 43 and 42. All four heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) were headed south during the incident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but damage occurred to all vehicles.

The aftermath included three HGVs with shattered windshields, while one HGV experienced a rock piercing through a sunroof, narrowly avoiding harm to both the driver and passenger within the cab. Perceived onlookers recording the incident on their mobile phones added a concerning layer to the offense.

Local authorities are actively investigating this matter and encourage anyone with information or access to videos depicting the incident to come forward. Reports can be submitted online at www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it, referencing incident number 202 from January 5, 2024, or by calling 101. Alternatively, individuals can share information anonymously with Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
