After more than 50 years in operation, MK-based transport company W H Barley has entered administration, as announced by CEO Emma Barber just three days before Christmas.
The family-run business, specializing in logistics and storage solutions, cited financial challenges and increasing costs as factors leading to this decision.
Emma Barber expressed regret for the impact on employees, clients, and suppliers, attributing the downturn to a tough economic climate for hauliers.
Despite efforts to explore alternatives, administration was deemed necessary due to rising costs and declining freight volumes.
The closure has left former employees without job opportunities, prompting legal action from some who claim inadequate notice of the decision.
A group of ex-employees is pursuing compensation under the Trade Union and Labour Relations Consolidation Act, asserting that the company failed to provide the required consultation period before making job cuts.
